I love this place Zhongwei. In Chinese it is pronounce as Zhong Wei Si and is located in west central Ningxia province. North of Zhongwei is Inner Mongolia (about 45 mins by car). This trip I was in a rush, so no time to visit Inner Mongolia.
On the way to Zhongwei, you can see lots of the wind turbine on the sandy desert.
With only a population of 1 millions plus, the road has eight lanes, 4 lanes on the left and 4 on the right. You can imagine, how long term the government plans for this place.
Why I loves this place Zhongwei? First, people here is friendly and during the night you feel safe walking down the street. Secondly, the environment is nice, relaxing, and township is well plan.
The Yellow river flow though the city. Man made lake was long in the centre dividing left and right of the road with nice tree along it.I travel to Zhongwei in mid May, and weather is hot in the afternoon around 34c very sunny. Remember to bring along your sun block. During the night, you need to wear a light jacket around 15c. Big different, right?
Two main religions in Zhongwei. Muslim and Buddish. If you are Muslim, no worries, there are lots and lots of Muslin restaurant which serve good tasty food.
This two has two famous tourist attraction but i personally think it was not strongly promoted overseas. First is the Shapotou with is also known as Tengri Desert and a very famous temple known as Ningxia Gao Temple. This is a must visit in Zhongwei.
